Respite Care is temporary, short term care for caregivers who need a break. Respite care gives families the chance to rest and recharge. In Lane County, there are several organizations that offer respite care for families.

Works with Early Childhood CARES
Head Start and Preschool Promise partner with Early Childhood CARES to support young children in the classroom who may need extra help. Early Childhood CARES offers free early intervention and special education services for children from birth to age five in Lane County. Their team helps children with speech, movement, learning, and social skills.
Home Visits
Home visits support children and families by helping with learning and development. During these visits, trained staff work with parents to share ideas and activities that support a child’s growth. These visits may include activities that help children build skills and feel ready for school.
Health Screenings
Health screenings check areas such as hearing, vision, and overall health to support children’s well-being and learning. Early screenings can help families get services or care if additional support is needed.
The Employment Related Day Care (ERDC) program helps Oregon families pay for child care while parents work, go to school, or do qualifying activities. Families pay only a small, income-based copay. ERDC pays the rest.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides monthly payments to children and adults with a disability and low income. SSI helps cover everyday needs like food, clothing, and housing for eligible US residents.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps families buy groceries each month. If your family qualifies, you can use SNAP at most grocery stores, farmers markets, and many online stores.
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) gives monthly cash to low-income families with children to help cover basics like food, clothing, and housing. Benefit amounts are based on income and family size.
Oregon Health Plan (OHP) provides free medical, dental, and mental health care for qualifying adults. OHP Bridge covers adults with slightly higher incomes (133–200% FPL) who lack affordable insurance. OHP CWM (Citizenship Waived Medical) offers limited coverage for adults who meet income and residency rules but are ineligible for full OHP based on immigration status.
The federal poverty level (FPL) is the minimum yearly income the U.S. government defines as necessary for individuals and families to meet basic needs like food, housing, and clothing. These guidelines are updated each year by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Many assistance programs compare your household’s income and size to federal poverty guidelines to decide whether you qualify for services. You can check eligibility by reviewing the most current federal poverty level chart.
Children already in Preschool Promise who want to switch sites.
Children currently attending or connected to a Preschool Promise site.
Children with a sibling enrolled at the same Preschool Promise school that year.
Children who live within the boundary of a school-based site.
Children who are: learning English; have an IFSP; living in a rural area without a nearby Preschool Promise program; in foster care; unhoused; from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds; from families facing extra challenges, including: teen parents, a parent who is incarcerated, a parent in substance use treatment, parents with intellectual or developmental disabilities, or student parents.
Use Oregon’s Child Care Safety Portal to look up licensed child care programs. You can search for any provider and see their license status, how many children they serve, inspection results, rule violations, complaints, and safety actions. You can also see if they are part of Spark, Oregon’s quality rating system.

For center-based child care, call the facility’s Licensing Specialist or the Office of Child Care to get their contact information.
You may qualify for a Housing Cost Adjustment if you spend more than 30% of your income on housing costs like rent, mortgage, insurance, utilities, and property taxes. Use the Housing Cost Adjustment Calculator or contact the Preschool Promise Enrollment Team to find out if you qualify.
